The Future Filmmaker Program provides a unique opportunity for Sheridan area youth to learn about multiple areas of film production, including Screenwriting, Directing, Sound Recording, and Editing. Through a series of classes and hands-on training on the production of a short film, students are guided by local and national film professionals. Students have the opportunity to write their own screenplays, collaborate on a film shoot, and present a short film during the WYO Film Festival in October. They learn teamwork, compassion, and self-worth by being empowered to lead with their creative ideas throughout the process.
WYO PLAY will offer a weekend filmmaking intensive designed to teach students the basics of filmmaking from the first idea for a story to the film shoot and the final edit–all in less than 48 hours. Led by local filmmaking professionals, this intensive is open to high school and college students, aged 15 and up, in and around the Sheridan area.
The morning of the first day will include a crash course in lights, camera and sound equipment and story idea prompting. The afternoon will consist of the film shoot. The second day will include a crash course in editing on Adobe Premiere, then students will work on editing their short original pieces until the Final Cut screening to round out the weekend.
Following the weekend intensive, students will be invited back to the WYO Theater to participate in a film screening and discussion series over the course of two weeks. Students will be able to take what they learned through hands-on experience to their analysis of classic films.
Note: Students are not required to attend all the film screenings in order to participate in the weekend intensive.
