Young Theatre Makers Ensemble Offerings Spring & Summer 2024

Young Theatre Makers Ensemble Offerings

Spring & Summer 2024

Program Description

Young Theatre Makers Ensemble brings together high school age students from across the greater Sheridan community to experience diverse types of theatre, create positive bonds with each other, and build skills as theatre artists on stage and behind the scenes.

A Young Theatre Makers Ensemble member is anyone who has been selected to participate in an Ensemble workshop, scene study, or production in the past. YTME members are not obligated to participate, nor are they guaranteed selection, in future YTME activities. That being said, YTME is an open and inclusive program that seeks to engage as many curious and enthusiastic young people as possible.

In 2024, there will be three unique Young Theatre Makers Ensemble experiences:

Offering 1: Musical Theater & Devising Workshops

Led by Matthew Greenberg, Assistant Professor of Theatre Performance at UW
Coordinated by Grace Cannon-Wallace, Director of WYO PLAY

Saturday, April 20, 2024
10:00-12:00 PM – Musical Theater Workshop
12:00-12:30 PM – Lunch (for students attending both workshops)
12:30-4:30 PM – Devising Workshop

These two workshops are open to all students in 10th-12th Grades, as of May 2024. Students are encouraged to participate in one or both workshops in order to experience a variety of theatrical training. The day will begin with the Musical Theater Workshop, which will focus on techniques for Musical Theater audition preparation. Spots are limited: maximum 10 students.

Then, lunch will be provided for students who are staying to participate in the Devising Workshop, which will take place in the afternoon. Devising is a process by which a theatrical performance is created collaboratively. This workshop will focus on Moment Work, a method developed by the Tectonic Theater Project. Spots are limited: maximum 15 students.

Offering 2: Play/Write Short Play Showcase
Collaboration with Relative Theatrics, based in Laramie

Rehearsals 2x/week: April 22-May 14
Travel to Laramie for Showcase performances on UW campus: May 15-17

Play/Write is a two-part program offered by Relative Theatrics that teaches the foundation of dramatic writing and theater literacy to 5th Graders in Laramie – then produces a community showcase of their work.  The WYO PLAY Young Theatre Makers Ensemble will receive two short plays written by Play/Write students, stage and rehearse the plays and travel to Laramie to perform in the Showcase with other adult theater artists. The purpose of the showcase is to celebrate and validate the artistic work of young people so that they learn skills for expressing themselves and confidence in the fact that what they have to say will be taken seriously.

This experience is open to a handful of YTME members who have previously participated in YTME activities.

Offering 3: Summer Production of MEAN GIRLS (High School Version)
Musical Co-production with WYO PLAY & Aspen Grove Music Studio
Director: Grace Cannon-Wallace
Music Director: Amanda Allyn

The Young Theatre Makers Ensemble 2024 Summer Production will be… MEAN GIRLS (High School Version). This unique (& fetch) musical will be led by the Director team of Grace Cannon-Wallace and Amanda Allyn. Auditions will take place in early May, so that students can incorporate rehearsals and performances into their summer schedules.
