WHEN: July 20 & 21, 2021, 6pm
WHERE: WYO Theater
WHAT: Be prepared to learn and sing select numbers from the show – cold reading from the script – movement to music.
AUDITION CRITERIA:
- Strong dance experience in ballet/jazz and tap (one or more years preferred)
- Musical theater experience
- Ability to cold read
- Ability to read music
- Strong vocal experience (at least one year of exposure)
- Needs to be proficient in accents (New York, for this show)
NEWSIES EXTRAS AUDITION CRITERIA:
Audition for Extras will be at 5:00pm on Wednesday, 21st of July.
- Must be 10 years of age
- Must be vocally strong
- Must have sufficient ability to move to music
Note: Extras will be performing in one musical number in the show and miscellaneous other small roles.
Dance Rehearsals: 2 times per week in August
Regular Rehearsals: after Labor Day – 6 to 9 Monday through Friday
Tech Week: October 11-15, 2021
Performance Dates: October 16, 21-24, 2021

Directed by Marva Craft with Music Direction by Kathy McNickle and set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!
Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots).
